Courses in Theology

Theology is the systematic study of the nature of the divine and, more broadly, of religious belief. Through the study of theology, students are able to reflect on personal religious experience, analyze sacred and important texts, think and write critically, and integrate reason and faith. Courses in theology are offered each semester. Course list, schedule and registration is below.

Anchored by the LMU Bellarmine College of Liberal Arts department of Theological Studies, students and scholars at Loyola Marymount investigate the broader areas of Christian religious experience including biblical, historical, systematic, pastoral, moral, and comparative theology, with a special emphasis on the Roman Catholic tradition.

For the public, the Center offers a number of short (extension) courses in theology. Similary, the LMU Department of Theological Studies opens a number of their graduate courses to auditors looking for more advanced study (instructor permission required). Courses and auditing information is below.

  • For those seeking more advanced study, enrollment is open for select graduate courses in the LMU Department of Theological Studies for professional and personal enrichment. Students auditing (referred to as “auditors”) have the opportunity to observe and participate in a graduate level theology course. Auditors are expected to attend and actively participate in class, however, as no grade or course credit is awarded, auditors are not required to complete class assignments.
