The Yoga Therapy Practicum is a two-course capstone experience for those seeking C-IAYT. After successful completion of the C-IAYT required coursework, students will apply and refine their delivery skills in both private and clinical settings. Under the guidance of clinical instructors and an assigned mentor, the praticum will prepare students to work as a professional Yoga therapists with chronic pain clients in a medical or allied health setting.
Students must successfully complete Yoga Therapy Practicum Preparation (didactic course traditionally held in the spring term) and Yoga Therapy Practicum Delivery (independent delivery course, which begins in the summer).
Please note that due to the pandemic, Practicum Delivery has pushed back the start date to September 24. This course will continue, but in a modified form under pandemic guidelines. Please be in contact with the practicum coorindator with any questions.
Upon successful completion of the practicum, students will demonstrate proficiency in:
- Assessing Yoga Therapy clients and prescribing safe therapeutic practices including specific asana, pranayama, meditation, Bhavana and lifestyle modifications.
- Communicating with physicians and other healthcare providers through case study reports in a clinical setting.
- In-depth knowledge of yoga practices and methods for self-inquiry related to establishing, practicing, and maintaining professional and ethical principles.
Enrollment Before 2018. Students who began the program before January 1, 2018, may complete the coursework required under the 2012 IAYT Educational Standards. This new practicum will be completed in fulfillment of the former Yoga Therapy Rx internship program (level 4).
